“This Wall of Memory reminds us that it is impossible to escape from history,  that we are nothing more than the result of what we were then ”.

There are more than 950 photographs of disappeared detainees.

Go through different files in order to reconstruct the visual map of the absent ones. Archive photography exists to the extent of a search and need to emerge themes of contingency. In this case, the images belonged to the private family archive / album of the relatives of the disappeared detainees, transporting such intimacy to an infinite public sphere at the time of installing a wall open to the community.

 

When creating a cartography of existing images, without the existence of the capture through the lens, it is the author himself who executes the act of the photographic camera. The act of registering involves leaving a document. It reveals the immediate, validating itself as testimony and evidence, and at the same time, captures through the lens the exact aesthetic moment, eminent a-historical.

 

The wall of memory is the manuscript of the history, politics and resistance of oblivion. The image disappears again, the record is canceled to make way for photographic time.
